Travel insurance

1.Could I be reimbursed for the follow-up medical expenses after return to Hong Kong?

Travel insurance covers medical expenses if you get injured or become sick during your trip.  Moreover, travel insurance covers the follow-up medical expenses within 3 months after returning to Hong Kong.

2. What should I do if I need assistance while overseas?

One of the major benefits of travel insurance is the 24-hour Travel and Medical Assistance Service which provides for loss of travel documents and baggage and air ticket arrangements, emergency evacuation, referral services for interpreter, legal, embassy and other medical facilities etc.

3. If my return trip is delayed due to bad weather and my current policy expires, do I need to purchase a new travel insurance?

The period of insurance will normally be extended if your return trip is delayed due to bad weather.  However, if the delay exceeds the prescribed period of extension, then you have to buy a policy.

Domestic Helper Insurance

1. What does a domestic helper insurance cover?

Generally speaking, domestic helper insurance covers employees’ compensation to the domestic helper, the domestic helper’s accident and medical benefits, surgical and hospital expenses, repatriation expenses, replacement expenses, infidelity of employee, allowance for temporary employee etc

2. Is it compulsory to buy insurance for part-time home assistant?

Pursuant to the Employees’ Compensation Ordinance, you, as an employer, are obliged to buy insurance for full-time and/or part-time home assistant to cover an employee’s injuries or fatal injuries resulting from an accident arising out of and in the course of such employee’s employment.

Personal Accident Insurance

1. What does a personal accident insurance cover?

Generally speaking, personal accident insurance covers accidents sustained during the period of insurance.  In case the Insured’s accident is fatal, the Insured’s family will receive benefits up to the sum insured.  If the Insured becomes disabled as a result of the accident, the Insured will receive benefits expressed as a percentage of the sum insured, depending on the severity of the disablement.

There are several factors that you should consider.  As the premium of personal accident insurance is based chiefly on the principal sum insured, you should consider your financial ability and burden such as mortgage and living expenses of the family before fixing the sum insured.

2. How is the premium of home insurance calculated?

Generally speaking, home insurance’s premium is based on the size of the home and the total value of the home contents.
